Description







Job Summary: House Supervisors have shift responsibility for all administrative and operational functions regarding the provision of patient care for all departments; collaborating with Department Directors as a resource for problem solving. Day shift House Supervisor collaborates with Administration and directors on the daily hospital activities. Demonstrates leadership abilities, including principles of conflict management and communication effectiveness. The Charge House Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing scheduling for this department. To assume responsibility and accountability for the data entry into government required databases. Assume responsibility of the daily operations of the bed board to improve patient throughput.



 



The House Supervisor functions as the administrative designee to employees, medical staff, and the community while ensuring that all care meets regulatory and professional requirements.



 



The House Supervisor must be knowledgeable regarding Hospital policies, procedures and standards to effectively manage and coordinate Hospital operations and emergency protocols and plans.

Job Responsibilities:



 




  1. Demonstrate leadership within nursing supervisor group and develop schedules.

  2. Demonstrate knowledge regarding Hospital policies, procedures and standards to effectively manage and coordinate Hospital operations and activity.

  3. Assume total responsibility for supervision of overall hospital activities relating to patient care.

  4. Provide leadership and autonomy in the professional practice setting and the profession.

  5. Supervise patient throughput through the bed board and communication with nursing units.

  6. Support patient’s rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural and religious diversity.

  7. Demonstrate knowledge and skill necessary to assure age appropriate care of pediatrics, adults, and geriatric populations.

  8. Assure implementation of standard precautions and infection control standards.

  9. Demonstrate advanced leadership skills.

  10. Works with nursing management group to promote patient throughput.

  11. Coordinates scheduling for house supervisor department.

  12. Manages the Bed board application for patient throughput.

  13. Primary contact for data entry for nursing quality indicators to regulatory bodies.

  14. Collects data for performance improvement activities (falls, infections, etc.)

  15. Participates in nursing initiatives, programs and committees as assigned.







Qualifications







Education Requirements and Other Requirements:



 



Education Level: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN or actively pursuing, MSN preferred.



 



Certification/Licensure: Current licensure with the State of Illinois. BLS certification within 30 days of hire. Certification in specialty required within one year of hire. Certifications in ACLS, PALS, and NRP within 6 months of hire.



 



Experience Requirements: Minimum of 5 years clinical experience preferred; management

Working Conditions:



 



Extensive standing, walking, stooping, reaching; some sitting, pushing, lifting of medium to heavy weights required. Possible exposure to hazardous materials.



 



Exposure Category I: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them, care Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
