Description







Job Summary: The secretary is responsible for performing secretarial functions as assigned in the department. Job duties are focused on data entry, insurance verification, account management, handling mail, faxing, and office management. Duties may vary within the department.

Job Responsibilities:




  1. Calls insurance companies or enters on-line demographic information to obtain precertification.

  2. Copies patient’s charts for health information when needed.

  3. Maintains access to remain current on knowledge of on-line web sites for insurance companies

  4. Clearly documents information regarding precertification and required follow up and performs follow up phone calls on pending cases as necessary.

  5. Enters notification and precertification numbers into the computer system accurately and timely.

  6. Assists with paperwork and telephone calls associated with authorizations, referrals, scans paper charts and other documents accurately and timely into the patient’s computer record.

  7. Informs staff of patients who request the department does not communicate with certain family/friends.

  8. Retrieves voice mail messages and records them accurately and legibly. Calls appropriate staff to inform of patient appointment changes and other messages on a timely manner.

  9. Supports patient’s right and responsibilities, including respect of cultural, ethical, and religious diversity.

  10. Responsible for delivery mail and picking up mail from mail room on a daily basis.

  11. Demonstrates flexibility to meet staffing needs of the department.

  12. Meets productivity standards







Qualifications







Education Requirements and Other Requirements:



Education Level: High school diploma or equivalent required.



Certification/Licensure:



Experience Requirements:

Typing skills and general computer knowledge required.

Medical terminology familiarity required.

Completion of clerical/secretarial program at an accredited school is preferred.

One –two years clerical/secretarial experience preferred.





Working Conditions: Sitting, walking, occasional pushing, pulling and lifting of medium to heavy weights.





Exposure Category : Category II-Tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues, but employment may require performing unplanned Category I tasks.



The normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, however, exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Appropriate protective measures are always available to every employee engaged in Category II tasks.
