Description







Job Summary: Performs basic duties of patient care to the Intensive Care or Intermediate Care patient under the guidance and direction of the Registered Nurse. Performs various housekeeping and cleaning duties to maintain a safe, clean environment. Performance expectations are defined in the competency evaluation.

Job Responsibilities:




  1. Completes mandatory educational requirements in a timely manner.

  2. Supports the Patients Bill of Rights by respecting cultural, religious and ethical diversity.

  3. Responds appropriately to alarms, hospital Code’s and safety issues, including required documentation.

  4. Uses effective and friendly communication skills with patients, staff, other departments,



physicians, families and visitors.




  1. Provides age-appropriate care to all patients in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner.

  2. Completes documentation in an accurate and timely manner, according to hospital policy and procedures.

  3. Provides for patients food and fluid needs.

  4. Provides for patients hygiene needs.

  5. Assists with patient mobility in a safe and appropriate manner.

  6. Obtains and documents accurate vital signs, I&O, weights and reports abnormal findings to the nurse in a timely manner.

  7. Maintains the patients’ environment to include appropriate equipment and supplies at all times.

  8. Provides for appropriate pressure ulcer prevention.

  9. Admits/Discharges/Transfers patient and completes appropriate forms

  10. Maintains a clean unit and completes the unit cleaning checklists.

  11. Performs clerical/secretarial duties in a timely and accurate manner when needed.

  12. Maintains the unit log books with pertinent information accurately, timely and in a legible manner.

  13. Follows HIPAA guidelines based on hospital policy.

  14. Performs EKG’s on patients when ordered.

  15. Completes and documents in a timely and accurate manner when placing and discontinuing Foley catheters, Accu checks, simple dressing changes and discontinuing saline locks.







Qualifications







Education Requirements and Other Requirements:



 



Education Level: High school diploma or equivalent



 



Certification/Licensure: Successful completion of approved Nurse Assistant course with certification



by the State of Illinois



BLS certification required within 30 days of hire



 



Experience Requirements: Minimum of two (2) years hospital experience in the last 5 years preferred. Graduate of a medical assistant program or secretarial program preferred. Student nurses will be eligible without certification after completion of the medical/surgical clinical rotation (must provide certification of completion). Experience requirements may be based on the discretion of the unit director.



 



 



Working Conditions: Exposure Category I: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them, care Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
